Fil-Am Fest 2013

The Filipino-American Arts & Culture Festival better known as FilAm Fest, with the theme “Unsung Heroes”, honored and celebrated the outstanding contribution of Filipinos-Americans. This annual gathering was held on Saturday, 5th October at the Paradise Valley Road, San Diego from 11:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) headed by its President, Ms. Mary Rose Peralta sponsored a booth that showcased educational achievement of teachers as well as the students. Throughout the day, students played wooden lyre with the guidance of Gng. Julita Biares from Morse High School.  One could hear the festive sound of “Bahay Kubo,” “Sitsiritsit,” and “Manang Biday.”

Philippine Faire 2013 Festival of Festivals

The Council of Philippine American Organizations (COPAO) of San Diego County organized the Philippine Faire 2013 Festival of Festivals last March 16, 2013 from 10:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. at Robert Egger Sr. South Bay Recreation Center, San Diego. This event upholds the belief of “Celebrating the Spirit of Bayanihan.” Bayanihan means a cooperative endeavor of working together.  Literally, community members move or lift a house together to a new location. This time, it was not moving a house, but moving Filipinos to strengthen their culture and identity here in United States.

Peralta, Elected CTFLC President

On Sunday, 16th December 2012, the Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture [CTFLC] gathered for its annual Christmas get-together (Part I) and general meeting (Part II). This gathering, held at residence of Mr. & Mrs. Alex Balane (thanks for opening your beautiful house), marked the end of another great year and was a time for everyone to come together and celebrate! CTFLC President Rosalina V. Idos presided over the General Meeting with the Election of Officers, as the main agenda, along with the preparations for the Rizal Day Commemoration on Dec. 30 and the Philippine Faire Festival on March 16, 2013.

An Extraordinary Day at the Coronado Tidelands Park

On the 2nd of June 2012, I thought it was just an ordinary day; but it turned out to be one of the most spectacular day for the Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) and especially for me.  As usual, I woke up in a June gloom day. The sun is still hiding behind the clouds as if it were tired just like the rest of us; we just ended our school year.  We arrived at Coronado Tidelands Park at about eleven in the morning. Gradually, the park was slowly filled up with people lugging their food and tents.  Gng. Dolly Balane and husband Alex arrived early to reserve a place for the Kapamilyang CTFLC picnic cum meeting.
