Retirement Celebration

"A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others.”  This is significantly true for the Sweetwater Union High School District teachers who retired this 2011.  Our honorees: Mrs. Dolores Balane from Eastlake High School, Ms. Virginia Ferrer from Otay Ranch High School, and Mr. Felizardo Moscoso from Montgomery High School taught Filipino classes and other core subjects. Indeed, they lighted and enriched students’ lives in understanding and appreciating the Filipino language and its cultural heritage.

Ang Bintana sa Ospital by Virginia Ferrer

CTFLC would like to share the poem, “Ang Bintana sa Ospital”, composed by Virginia Ferrer.

Learning A Foreign Language

“Learning to speak another’s language means taking one’s place in the human community. It means reaching out to others across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Language is far more than a system to be explained. It is our most important link to the world around us. Language is culture in motion. It is people interacting with people.” - Sandra Savignon *** “We want to raise our children so that they can take the sense of pleasure in both their own heritage and the diversity of others.” – Mister Rogers
