The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) is now signing up prospective test takers of the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) in Filipino for an on-line review which was piloted on November 2009 Exam. Since the first CSET:Filipino was administered in November 2006, CTFLC and the Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University (SDSU) have conducted free review classes for three Saturdays preceding the scheduled examination. This project has provided support to teachers wanting to obtain a credential that will allow them to teach Filipino language in public schools.
The on-line review is FREE for the 5th May 2012 test date. Participants who sign up and register will be able to access the on-line review materials (Domains: General Linguistics & Linguistics of the Target Language: Filipino) and post questions and comments to the on-line review facilitator, Dr. Atilio V. Alicio. Dr. Alicio, a professor of Filipino at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and SDSU, facilitated the past review sessions held in San Diego.
There continues to be a need for credentialed teachers in Filipino in California because of the growing Filipino youth population in the state that feels the need to learn their heritage language and culture. CTFLC hopes that the on-line test preparation for CSET:Filipino will encourage more teachers to take the test and consequently obtain their credential. The on-line review will make test preparation available to future teachers of Filipino not only in San Diego, but also to those in other places in California and the US.
To sign-up for or get more information about the free CSET:Filipino on-line review, please contact Dolores Balane by phone: (619) 370-5390 or by e-mail: dbalane@cox.net.
